I have a Circle
2022
Recording, white paper
Because of my visual impairment, I am not able to use a pen to draw a sketch on paper before creating my work, as is the case with the sighted. In the process of creating a certain shape, I have to rely on my hands and my sense of touch: adjusting the shape of the object while judging whether it has reached the shape I have in mind through my touch.
Through this activity called 'I have a circle', I want you to experience how you can make a circle without being able to draft it and without being able to see it. I mainly want you to experience the process, so please relax and don't think you have to make a perfect circle, you just have to focus on the process.

You are invited to follow the instructions below to complete the following creation:
Please prepare a piece of paper with at least one side being pure white, of any size.
Next, please find a place where you can sit comfortably.
Afterwards, without using your eyes, please rely solely on your sense of touch to change the paper in your hand into a circle, such as tearing it into a circle with your hands.
hint:
- Although the above example uses hands to tear paper, you don’t have to use your hands. You can use different parts of your body, but you cannot use other tools. You don’t have to use the paper-tearing method.
The following tips apply to both non-visually impaired people and visually impaired people with residual vision:
- During the process of forming the paper into a circle, you are prohibited from observing the condition of the paper with your eyes in any way.
- If you accidentally look at this paper with your eyes, please pick up another piece of paper and start over.
- When you have completed a circle without relying on your vision, use your sense of touch to feel whether the shape matches your mental image of a circle. If it does, stop and look at your circle with your eyes.
- Once you have visually inspected the circle, you are not allowed to modify it, even if you are not satisfied with the result.
Once you have completed the above steps and have completed any circle, if possible, please find a pure dark background, such as a pure black background, and take a photo of the circle with your camera.
You can share the circle you photographed with your friends on social media, or you can share it with my colleague Mandy from CCCD.
Thank you for participating and hope you enjoy the process.
