Community Cultural Development Center - Tactile Art Space

Curator: Xiaoxing

This is the second exhibition in CCCD Tactile Art Space. Last time we created a dark space, hoping to reduce the hegemony of vision as much as possible and focus on the sense of touch. This time we tried to use a bright exhibition hall to explore another topic of tactile art: materials.

At the workshop gathering, Xiao Xing led a workshop on creating with cloth tape (commonly known as: taping). Visually impaired participants all thought that cloth tape was very suitable and convenient for them to create. Not only can cloth tape replace paint to densely lay out a smooth surface, but it can also use its hardness to directly create three-dimensional or sculpture works. The biggest feature of cloth tape is its woven surface, which can be easily and neatly torn by hand. It can be torn into different lengths and thicknesses without scissors. It is also waterproof, heat-resistant, highly sticky, and leaves no marks after tearing. This kind of tape is often used in stage production, film and photography industries, etc., to stabilize various wires and objects on the scene. Cloth tape is generally regarded as a tool and rarely appears in artworks in the past.

In this exhibition, we have specially transformed the materials that were originally tools into tactile artworks, inviting artists to use cloth tape to stick out their own "self". And these different "I" will form a "land" that belongs to "us" here.
